Realized when she read Golding's journals that he told himself lots of uncomfortable truths

Golding told Judy not to read The Inheritors as a child - too upsetting

Books were curiously intimate to Golding, and the family as a whole did not really discuss them

While he was writing Lord of the Flies, it was as if Golding was on a coral island; such was his immersion in the novel

Question about Golding's journals. They equal two and a half million words!

Golding wrote in his Journals: there is always an audience. Judy describes reading them as 'thrilling'.
